The Institute of Labour and Management (ILM) was established in 1999 under the Travancore – Cochin Literary, Scientific and Charitable Societies Act 1955 by Sri. M. Sivadas, Former Additional Labour Commissioner, Government of Kerala and late Prof. T. S.N. Pillai, Loyola College of Social Sciences. ILM is a think tank adhering to social commitment and concern for environment. ILM caters to the needs and requirements of various segments of the society through its specific programmes. ILM is actively involved in developing pragmatic ideas and programmes for promoting Kerala with employable youth, empowered labour, dynamic entrepreneurs and businessmen. ILM also provide research, consultancy, training and capacity building services to various stakeholders in industrial and commercial establishments, educational and financial institutions.

The lead role in this endeavour was played by Sri. R. Prakasam, Former MLA, Sri V. V. Vijayan IAS (Retd.), Former Labour Commissioner and Secretary, Government of Kerala, Sri. V. Krishnamurthy IAS (Retd.), Former Chief Secretary, Government of Kerala.

The Brain Trust of the institute is constituted by its members who possess proven track record as professionals, academicians, policy makers, administrators, businessmen and industrialists. Through consultative and participatory approach, members extend guidance, support services and handholding for sustainable development practices and initiatives.
